Bleed and trim
Book size always means width x height at the binding edge. Build your working file 0.125" larger on every side than the final trim size to allow for bleed. For an 8.5 x 11" book, the working file should be 8.75 x 11.25".
- Body content and logos must stay inside the trim line.
- Backgrounds and full-bleed images must extend past the trim line into the bleed area.
Size limits by binding
- Saddle stitch & wire: 4"–11.8" wide, 4"–14.3" tall, page count in multiples of 4 (saddle) or 2 (wire).
- Perfect binding: 4"–11.8" wide, 4"–14.3" tall, page count in multiples of 2.
- Hardcover: 5.4"–11.8" wide, 5.4"–14.3" tall, page count in multiples of 4.
Typography & color
- Minimum font size of 6pt. Embed and outline all fonts before exporting.
- Set black body text to K-only (C0 M0 Y0 K100) so it prints crisp.
- Convert RGB images to CMYK, target 300 dpi minimum for anything the reader will look closely at.
Export
Submit one PDF for the cover and a separate PDF for the interior pages. Watch for font licenses that strip embedded fonts on PDF conversion — check the exported file before uploading.
